The shiny new third entry into the Killing Floor series is finally here. Featuring six classes at launch, the game has a ton of weapon, skill, and Perk variety, all of which contribute to its high replayability value.
One of these Perks is the Engineer, a heavy-hitting soundwave enjoyer who thrives on slaughtering Zeds with shotguns, explosives, or sound. He is one of the less interesting Perks in the game, failing to stand out enough amid other shotgun and explosive users, but carries a very potent gadget that could make or break high difficulty runs.
To help you be on top of your game at all times with the Engineer, we’ve crafted the following build.
The Best Build for Engineer in KF3
The Engineer has two shotguns, a grenade launcher, and a laser rifle at his disposal, each playing significantly differently. For the sake of our build, we’ll be going for a Shotgunner Engineer playstyle, using his two shotguns kitted out with different bullets for maximum single- and multi-target damage. The Engineer is a fantastic Perk for clearing massive waves of enemies due to his gadget, but since it won’t always be available, we’ll have to rely on his second primary weapon aside from his default one.
Pump-action shotguns are just too OP in KF3 to be ignored, and the Engineer’s default Contek CSG is perfectly capable of butchering Zeds at any difficulty.
Loadout

Here’s our recommended build:
- Primary:
- Contek CSG:
- Incendiary Shells
- Shotgun Suppressor
- Laser Sight
- Reflex Sight
- Drum Mag
- High-Velocity Receiver
- Bonebreaker
- Explosive Slugs
- Shotgun Suppressor
- Laser Sight
- Reflex Sight
- Drum Mag
- Fast Action Receiver
- Contek CSG:
The Context is a pump-action shotgun, whereas the Bonerbreaker is automatic. For close-range Zeds in need of a proper thrashing, you’ll want to use the Contek, whereas long-range altercations should be handled with the Bonebreaker, whose explosive shells will ensure the target and anything around it is blown to Kingdom Come. Additionally, Contek is perfect for bigger, heavily armored Zeds as only a few hits to critical areas are enough to stagger and open them for an execution.
- Side Arm:
- Krait
- Electric Ammo
- Suppressor
- Laser Sight
- Reflex Sight
- Extended Mag
- Heavy Frame Receiver
- Krait
Krait is one of the better side arms in the game, providing a good rapid-firing fully automatic option to the Engineer. While you won’t be using it all the time, it’s good to have it kitted out for the rare occasion you’re knocked down or just need to spray and pray into a group of crazed Zeds. The Heavy Frame Receiver will slow its fire rate a bit, but the massive damage uplift is more than worth it, given how quickly the gun fires anyway.
Skills

Much like other Perks in the game, the Engineer has his own set of passives, throwable buffs, and gadget improvements that allow him to achieve ultimate power. Since we went for a shotgun-focused loadout, we’ll also target shotguns in the skill tree, while focusing on increasing Bouncing Betty and Bunkered’s efficacy.
- Passives:
- Tool Up
- Major Damage
- Bleed for Speed
- Scatter Plot
- Rally Beacon
- Throwable
- Grounded
- Capacity Increase
- Super Shredder
- Capacity Increase
- Second Time Around
- Gadget
- Stabilize
- Wall of Sound
- Clear the Area
- Sonic Salvo
- Reverb Pedal
With this skill set, you’ll have a ton of damage output both from your weapons, and your throwable and gadget. You’ll also have a lot of buffs to your mobility and defense, while retaining a lot of efficiency in boss fights due to just how powerful your soundwave blasts will be.
