While today’s Nintendo Partner Direct wrapped up with a couple of Square Enix reveals, there was one more announcement from the RPG maker that only made an appearance in the Japanese version of the Direct. As detailed on an FAQ page, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is getting a free Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade, though it doesn’t sound like a particularly big one.
According to the FAQ, the update includes “Graphical improvements which make the game appear sharper and smoother,” and “Additional options which allow players to prioritize frame rate or graphics.” It also stressed that “No changes have been made to the story or which items can be obtained in the game,” so it really does just sound like a case of making the game look a bit prettier and run a bit better on Switch 2. The update is available today.
There was also a new trailer for Dragon Quest 1+2 HD Remake, seemingly framed as a release date trailer, though that was revealed back in May. Weirdly, despite releasing on both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, the Dragon Quest 1+2 HD Remake won’t be getting an upgrade path for the original Switch, so it’ll be up to you as to whether you want to hold out on picking it up if you don’t have a Switch 2 yet.
