Phoenix and Blade battling side by side in Marvel Rivals

Live service games are very tough to pull off. Just ask any of the myriad titles that have tried and failed. But Marvel Rivals, even with a player count that rises and falls, seems to have cracked the code on having consistent content.

With Blade set to join the roster of playable heroes on Aug. 8 in the season 3.5 update, NetEase has now shown off what players can expect over the rest of season three’s duration, along with officially confirming the launch date for season four. And it’s closer than you may think.

Blade will kick off the new midseason update with another new event Queen’s Codex, which will bring about multiple new skins including a symbiote skin for The Thing and Hela’s Queen in Black costume, plus more.

The following week, two new incredible-looking costumes for Cloak & Dagger and Winter Soldier continue the theme of Phoenix Force vs. Symbiotes that season three sports, allowing players to spend their currencies if they choose to do so.

Aug. 22 adds another new event, Ancient Powers Awaken, which includes some more skins for Venom, Iron Man, Iron Fist, and more, but an all-new game mode called Resource Rumble will be added to the game with a new map, Throne of Knull, bringing players back into the fold if they stray too far from the free-to-play shooter as August winds down.

The season looks to close out with the Phoenix Chaos skin for Scarlet Witch on Aug. 29 and Peni Parker’s Wasteland Mech outfit on Sept. 5 before coming to a head and ending the following week when season four begins.

Regardless of how I feel about the game’s balancing or matchmaking (I am not a fan of either), you must hand it to the design team, who are cooking up amazing skins for Marvel’s legendary heroes, reliably dropping them into the store every week or so.

The new season of Marvel Rivals is somehow already just a little over a month away, scheduled to begin on Sept. 12. In the weeks leading up to its arrival, more information about its new heroes, maps, modes, and more will be unveiled, and the content calendar will fill up once more.

This game has a way of making me come back pretty consistently, and this kind of content schedule is a big reason why.
