U.S. President Andre Curtis (Keith David) has served as a foil for super scientist Rick Sanchez (Justin Roiland, replaced by Harry Belden in season 7) throughout much of Rick and Morty’s eight-season run on Adult Swim. The president has alternated between calling Rick in to help with threats to Earth, trying to arrest Rick for his dangerous antics, and causing big problems all on his own like taking over an alien hive mind to boost his approval ratings. Now he’ll be handling America’s response to more weird science fiction crises on his own TV show.

David made a surprise appearance at Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty panel at San Diego Comic-Con to announce his starring role in President Curtis, which will be co-created by Rick and Morty executive producers Dan Harmon and James Siciliano. Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Jim Rash (Community) will play members of the president’s eccentric staff tasked with handling interdimensional diplomacy, paranormal investigations, and dealing with unexplained phenomena.

“President Curtis has always been a blast to play,” David said in a statement. “Getting to explore his world more deeply in this new series is a dream. I can’t wait for fans to see what kind of chaos he stirs up when Rick isn’t around to steal the spotlight.”

There’s no word yet on when President Curtis will be released. This is the third spinoff of Rick and Morty, with Adult Swim also releasing a 10-episode series based on Rick and Morty’s bizarre superhero group The Vindictors in 2022 and Rick and Morty: The Anime premiering in 2024.
