Co-op survival title PEAK added one of the funniest features we’ve ever seen as part of one of its July updates. It turns out that cannibalism is a real thing now, and it is just as strange as you’d imagine.
There had been plenty of requests from the community to add cannibalism in some way, shape, or form. However, not many expected Aggro Crab and Landfall to introduce it, let alone just a month after the game’s release. Now, you can “eat” one of your buddies during your playthroughs.
Let’s find out how this feature actually works.
How to eat people in PEAK
For starters, this mechanic is only available when you’re playing in a group. However, certain rules apply before you can cook and eat your friend.
- You or your teammate will have to be really hungry. Your hunger bar should be above the 0.6 threshold for you or your friends to see this option. If you’re not very hungry, you won’t find the option to eat others.
- Next, the person you want to eat has to be unconscious. This part is mandatory, just like the previous requirement. If your buddy isn’t unconscious, you won’t be able to partake in cannibalism, even if your hunger threshold is above 0.6.
If both requirements are satisfied, your passed-out friend will appear as a giant chicken. You can directly consume them to take your first step in PEAK‘s cannibalism.
There are some benefits of trying PEAK‘s cannibalism feature. Your friend-turned-chicken counts as food, and they’ll satisfy your hunger after you consume them. However, you’ll end up receiving a curse, similar to when you’re revived after death.
At the time of writing, the exact effect this curse has on your stamina bar is unknown. Nonetheless, consuming your friends through this mechanic will inflict a curse that permanently decreases your maximum stamina unless you use one of PEAK’s items to remove it. Additionally, you’ll have one less teammate on your trek, which will make your trip to the top a lot harder.
Hence, cannibalism should be treated as a last resort. Thankfully, there are plenty of food items in PEAK that can satisfy your hunger. Most other options are not only better to use, but your party will be at full strength and, in some cases, receive extra energy to make your climb easier.
