If you managed to get your hands on a Nintendo Switch 2, it’s not a bad idea to pair it with a new gamepad. The standard Joy-Con 2 are great–but if you’re seeking a more traditional gamepad experience, you’ll find a bunch of PowerA Switch 2 controllers on sale for Prime Day, which runs from July 8 to July 11 this year. All of the discounted controllers are officially licensed devices featuring unique Nintendo-themed artwork from series like The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros. and Pokemon. While the controllers were originally designed for the standard Switch, they are compatible with the Switch 2–just note they don’t include the C button found on Switch 2-specific gamepads. They also can’t wake up the Switch 2 from sleep mode, but once the system is powered on, they will work like normal.
While you’ll find a lot of different designs up for grabs, most of these deals are spread across three different types of controllers. The most compelling of the bunch is the PowerA Enhanced Wireless Controller. Built with a rechargeable battery that gets up to 30 hours per charge, two mappable back buttons, motion controls, and a standard gamepad design that closely mimics Nintendo’s first-party Pro Controller, it’s a solid choice for all types of games. It lacks rumble and amiibo support, but since certain models are now just $41.24 (was $60), they’re a solid choice for frugal shoppers.
A step down from the PowerA Enhanced Wireless Controller is the standard PowerA Wireless Controller. It’s a bit more affordable than the Enhanced models, though it runs on AA batteries and does not support motion controls, rumble, or amiibo NFC. Still, it comes with some truly cool designs and is a cheap companion for casual gaming. In fact, the Legend of Zelda Edition is currently just $25 (was $45), which matches its lowest price ever from around Black Friday 2024.
