The best Prime Day deals on Verge-favorite 4K Blu-rays

Here at The Verge, we love physical media, and we know many of you do as well. That’s why it’s our duty to share the news that many great 4K Blu-ray and standard Blu-ray movies, TV shows, and box sets are on sale for Prime Day. Amazon is currently offering a ton of great Blu-ray deals (including a “buy two, get one free” deal), but if you’d rather shop elsewhere, other retailers have an excellent selection of deals, too. Now through July 12th, for example, Target is running a “buy two, get one free” promo. Barnes & Noble, meanwhile, is hosting a big sale on Criterion Collection classics through July 27th.

One thing to note — and you may already be aware of this — is that you need a 4K Blu-ray player to play 4K Blu-rays. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X can both serve as a basic option, but we thought you’d like to know that Panasonic’s solid UB420-K 4k Blu-ray player is also down to $229.72 (normally $250) at Amazon. If you’d like to take a gamble on a returned “like new” model through Amazon Resale (formerly Amazon Warehouse), Prime members can get one for just $148.79 before tax.

Lord of the Rings Trilogy

It’s tough to beat the value of getting all three LOTR films in 4K (both the theatrical and extended cuts) in a single set for under $100. Plus, each film is presented in Dolby Vision HDR with Atmos.

Dark Knight Trilogy

You can get all three of Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies for $40 off for Prime Day. The 9-disc 4K set will put speaker systems to the test with plenty of Hans Zimmer’s signature “bwaaaaaah” sounds.

Smile 2

The 4K version of 2024’s sleeper hit is presented in Dolby Vision HDR and Atmos sound. It includes director commentary, deleted scenes, and plenty of creepy smiles.

Arcane: League of Legends season one steelbook

Avatar & Legend of Korra Complete Series Collection

You can now buy both acclaimed Nickelodeon series in one collection, each presented in 1080p. The set includes several bonus features as well, such as audio commentaries for The Legend of Korra.

Parasite

This 4K version of Parasite is available in HDR10 and HDR10 Plus formats. More importantly, the included Q&A with director Bong Joon Ho is in 4K, too.

The 4K version of Quentin Tarantino’s 2003 revenge epic features Dolby Vision HDR and a “making of” featurette, along with other bonus content.

Twin Peaks: Z to A

Twin Peaks: Z to A includes all three seasons of David Lynch’s surreal crime drama. All episodes are presented in 1080p, except for the pilot and part eight of season three, which are in 4K. You also get a host of bonus features.

Godzilla Minus One

The 2023 film is presented here in glorious 4K, with visual effects so impressive that the film earned an Oscar at the 2024 Academy Awards.

If you’ve never seen The Substance, get ready for some of the most intense body horror imaginable. Nothing will prepare you for the twists… or for how good this flick is.

Galaxy Quest

This 1999 Star Trek spoof has a lot of heart. Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver, Sam Rockwell, and Tim Allen star in a sci-fi comedy that is, yes, very dumb, but definitely worth watching.

Some other great Blu-ray recs

• One of the best cartoons ever made is Batman: The Animated Series. It dominated TVs and store shelves in the ‘90s, and now you can own all 109 episodes (but not the great Mask of the Phantasm film) across 12 discs in this Batman: The Animated Series Blu-ray collection for just $29.99 (usually $50).
• Robert Egger’s revamped version of Nosferatu is available on 4K Blu-ray for $15.99 (about $24 off) at Amazon. The title is dripping with style, and it effectively brings together elements from the original 1922 film and Bram Stoker’s Dracula novel to great effect. Read our review.
• The 4K Blu-ray version of The Wild Robot is a steal now that it’s down to $13.99 ($16 off) at Amazon. The gorgeously animated film is a bit of a tear-jerker, with an all-star voice cast that includes Pedro Pascal, Stephanie Hsu, Mark Hamill, Matt Berry, Lupita Nyong’o, Ving Rhames, and more.
• The Wire is one of the few HBO gems from its cable-only era that’s still considered must-watch TV. Thankfully, you can — and should — pick up the complete series on Blu-ray while it’s down to $49.99 ($51 off) at Amazon, which is about $30 less than its usual price. Just note that this collection is in 16:9 aspect ratio, while the show initially aired in 4:3.
• BBC’s Orphan Black put the inimitable Tatiana Maslany on the map. She plays multiple roles with ease in this multi-season sci-fi show that’s about clones and cons. The Blu-ray set is available at Amazon right now for $22.99 ($42 off), which marks its lowest price to date.
• Furiosa: Mad Max Saga is available on 4K Blu-ray at Amazon for $12.99 ($21 off). The prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road is no less explosive as it dives into Furiosa’s backstory. It stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth. Read our review.
