Scurge: Hive, originally a Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS game, is planned to launch on PC and consoles this year. Needless to say, that probably wasn’t on your bingo card of predictions, especially considering the metroidvania title originally released in 2006.

That’s so long ago that the term metroidvania wasn’t even used in GameSpot’s Scurge: Hive review from 19 years ago. Instead, “Metroid style of play” described the handheld experience, which will soon be available on the big screen for the first time via PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Publisher Ratalaika Games is behind the Scurge: Hive revival.

This isn’t the first time Ratalaika has brought back a GBA game for modern platforms. Last year, the company released Aero The Acro-Bat: Rascal Rival Revenge, which was originally launched in 2002 for Nintendo’s handheld. Funnily enough, that was a remake itself of the first Aero game from 1993.
