Tim Burton’s YA spin on the Addams family turned out to be a smash hit for Netflix, and Wednesday returns for a second season in August.
Set to The Phantom of the Opera overture, the second trailer for season 2 sees the brooding goth Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) returning to Nevermore Academy for the new school year alongside her brother Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez). After saving the school for outcasts from a killer pilgrim and the serial killer barista Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan) last season, Wednesday is welcomed as a hero by the new principal (Steve Buscemi) and the student body.
The misanthropic Wednesday is pretty uneasy with her newfound popularity, trying to deter the fans begging for autographs and papering her room with art. But she’s more concerned with the prophetic visions — a gift she inherited from her mother Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) — showing that she’ll somehow be responsible for the death of her perky werewolf roommate Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers).
Saving her friend will involve uncovering family secrets. That will probably center on new cast member Joanna Lumley, who plays Morticia’s cold, calculating, and fabulously wealthy mother Hester Frump. There are scenes of a fun-looking carnival, a masquerade ball, the dead rising from the grave, and Tyler in monstrous Hyde form. Not everything will be easy for Wednesday, as the trailer shows she will be captured again.
Part 1 of Wednesday season 2 hits Netflix on Aug. 6, with part 2 following on Sept. 3.
